Traditional games in Spain

"El Bote" (The empty can)

We need an empty fizzy drink can to play this game. We choose the first person for a turn with a draw. We need to draw a big circle on the floor and we put the can in the middle.

  • The first seeker turns his/her back to the can and the rest of the players stand opposite him.
  • One of the other players kicks the can and sends it flying in any direction.
  • While the first seeker goes to look for the can, the others hide.
  • The seeker comes back to the circle with the can and shouts "BOTE" and starts looking for the rest of the players.
  • If he sees one of the players, he runs to the can in the circle and shouts "BOTE, (name of player + place where he is hiding)" and that player must come out and stand next to the can. That player is eliminated.
  • The rest of the players must try to kick the can before the seeker calls out their names. If one player succeeds, the eliminated players can leave the circle and hide again while the seeker places the can back in the circle.

"The Blind Hen"

We need a scarf to cover the eyes of one of the players, who stays blinded in the centre of a circle made by the rest of the players holding hands.
They sing this song:

Players: "Little blind hen, what did you misplace?"
Player in the middle: "My thimble and needle, do you know where they went?"
Players: "Turn around and you shall find them"

The player in the middle turns around three times and then tries to catch one of the other players from the circle. When she does, she has to guess who it is by touching his/her face. If she guesses, the person caught is the hen in the next turn. If she makes a mistake, she has to be the hen again.
